The Japanese Castle Travel Database Project

The castles of Japan are culturally and historically significant architectural and cultural landmarks, attracting millions of visitors annually. Travelers, both domestic and international, seek to explore these castles to learn about their history, architecture, and role in Japanese history. However, in 2025, Japan is predicted to see it's highest level of tourism to date. With the increasing number of visitors this year, it can be challenging to plan visits, find relevant information about the castles. For visitors to have the best possible experience, it is important to examine the available information and make decisions that best suit their travel style and needs.

To enhance the experience of visitors, this proposal outlines the development of a web application that allows users to search, explore, and log their experiences from visiting Japanese castles. This application will leverage a spatial database to model castle locations. Users will be able to filter castles based on prefecture and district, log their experience at each castle, and read other logs to inform their travels.
